Wild Mustang Set
This set includes one each of the “Dance of the Mustang” and “Voodoo” figurines. The figurines fit together at the base.
“Dance of the Mustang” is The Trail of Painted Ponies tribute to the famous pinto mustang named Picasso. Known for gorgeous coloring that could have come from a painter’s palette, Picasso lives in the Sand Wash Basin in Northwest Colorado, where he is the lead stallion in a free-roaming herd of wild horses. Striking an iconic pose intended to attract an equally beautiful mare, and at the same time warn off potential competitors, Picasso stands as a living symbol of the history and pioneer spirit of the American West, and is now joined by the companion figurine “Voodoo.”
Competition between stallions for mares on the wild horse range of the Sand Wash Basin can be brutal, and the battle between Picasso, a gorgeous pinto featured in The Trail's Summer 2019 release, and Voodoo, a single stallion that had lost his band, for the attention of a young filly, led to continual fighting. By early summer Voodoo had prevailed, but his victory was short-lived. On August 21, 2018 he was found with a broken leg and humanely euthanized. True story. In his memory, and in acknowledgement of the rivalry between these two spirited stallions, The Trail has created this companion piece to “Dance of the Mustang.”
